Samartex Ladies Gear Up for Debut Season as GFA Engages Women’s Premier League Clubs
The leadership of the Ghana Football Association (GFA) has met with executives of Women’s Premier League (WPL) clubs, including Samartex Ladies, ahead of the highly anticipated 2025/26 Malta Guinness WPL season.
The high-level engagement, held on Monday, July 21, 2025, was attended by GFA President Kurt Edwin Simeon-Okraku, General Secretary Prosper Harrison Addo, Executive Council members, representatives of the Domestic Leagues Committee and Referees Committee, as well as executives from all participating clubs.
The meeting served as a platform to reflect on the just-ended season, share feedback, and deliberate on measures to further strengthen women’s football in Ghana.
President Simeon-Okraku applauded clubs for their commitment and professionalism throughout the 2024/25 campaign and emphasized the GFA’s readiness to collaborate closely with teams in raising the profile of the women’s game. He highlighted ongoing improvements in areas such as officiating, player contracts, matchday protocols, and compliance standards.

For Samartex Ladies, who will be competing at the elite level for the very first time, the engagement offered an opportunity to align with the vision of the GFA and prepare effectively for their debut campaign. Club executives actively participated in discussions, sharing insights and suggestions on how to strengthen league structures and sustainability.
Chairman of the Domestic Leagues Committee, Dr. Anthony Aubynn, underscored the steady progress of the women’s game, citing the impressive performances of the Black Queens at the CAF Women’s Africa Cup of Nations as proof of Ghana’s growing investment in women’s football.
The session concluded with an open forum where Samartex Ladies and fellow clubs contributed ideas on how to enhance visibility, attract sponsorship, and ensure long-term growth of the WPL.
The 2025/26 Malta Guinness Women’s Premier League is set to feature 20 clubs divided into Northern and Southern Zones. Newly promoted Samartex Ladies will join Oaks FC, AshTown Ladies, and PearlPia Ladies as fresh entrants to the competition.
The season officially kicks off on October 31, 2025, running through to April 27, 2026. Samartex Ladies will look to make an impact in their debut year and establish themselves as a strong force in the women’s topflight.
